The History Of Forex

The History Of Forex

By Nigel Banks

Forex is the currency trading market which is the biggest and most quickly evolving markets in the world. While the history of forex is relatively young, the size of this market is humongous. Currently it has a daily turn over of of 2.5 trillion dollars which is actually 100 times larger then the NASDAQ.

FOREX is an international online currency exchange that was established in 1971. FOREX is the abbreviation for the Foreign Exchange market. This is basically an international exchange market where currencies from all over the world are bought and sold with the purpose of speculating or hedging on currency price fluctuations.

The History of Forex

The history of foreign exchange really goes back as far as the use of money, but the modern Foreign Exchange really came about after modern governments went off of the gold standard.

The gold standard was a method to make paper money have meaning. In the case of the gold standard, each paper dollar that floated around in the economy there was an equivalent dollars worth of gold held in the federal reserve. Thus the paper money was simply a representation of the gold that was held safely under lock and key.

When western economies went off of the gold standard all of the sudden each nations economy could fluctuate in value beyond or below the value of gold because it was no longer tied to gold.

This meant that a market could be created to take advantage of the differences in values between the individual paper currencies. Thus the Foreign exchange was officially launched in 1971.

From The History Of Forex To Today

Today, Forex trading is more popular than ever. And there are numerous sources of news, and Forex market data to choose from.

Today the Internet has delivered it all at the click of a mouse. This has brought foreign currency trading to a huge audience.

Today, there are almost as many currencies traded as there are countries to trade them, and these markets have changed dramatically just a very few years.

Today the average person can learn Forex trading fast and easy with the vast number of trading systems and Expert Advisor Forex trading software programs available. The sale or trading of currency is at the heart of what Forex is all about. But it is unwise to dive into trading without at least a basic level of Forex education.
